The Wales Audit Office has recently published a report into commissioning of accommodation services for adults with learning disabilities. It concluded that local authorities are generally meeting the accommodation needs of adults with learning disabilities, but existing commissioning arrangements are unlikely to be fit for purpose in the future.
This review focussed on assessing if local authorities have effective approaches to commissioning accommodation for adults with learning disabilities (those aged over 16).
Findings are taken under 3 chapters and recommendations made:
- The approach to commissioning accommodation for people with learning disabilities is potentially unsustainable.
- Local authorities generally do not have effective arrangements to commission accommodation services for people with learning disabilities.
- Ineffective evaluation of outcomes for learning disability services means local authorities are not always able to demonstrate the positive impact of their accommodation commissioning choices.
