We are looking for a young person with a learning disability or autism to become a Member of the next Welsh Youth Parliament

If you want to apply, you must be aged between 11 and 17 on 25 November 2024.

You must live in Wales or go to school or college in Wales.

We are looking for a young person with a learning disability or autism who:

  • can listen to others
  • is good at communicating (using their own way of communication)
  • will ask for support if needed
  • has good people skills
  • can be reliable with the right support.

Please do not worry if there are things you are not sure about or you might need training on – you can still apply.

If you are chosen, we will support you to make sure you can fully take part in the Welsh Youth Parliament.

What will Welsh Youth Parliament Members do?

The Welsh Youth Parliament will run for 2 years from January 2025 to December 2026.

There will be regional meetings every 6 to 8 weeks. Some of these will be online and some will be face-to-face.

There will also be 3 full residential meetings of the Welsh Youth Parliament. These are normally held at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

There will be 60 members in total. They will be a voice for young people across Wales, finding out what is important to them and working together to make positive changes.

If you are chosen, we will support you based on your needs.

Welsh Youth Parliament will pay for your transport and accommodation.

How to apply

Stage 1

You can apply in 3 ways. You can send us:

  • a video no longer than 3 minutes or
  • an audio recording no longer than 3 minutes or
  • up to 500 words of writing – this can be written by hand or on a computer.

In your application, tell us why you would be a good Welsh Youth Parliament Member. Make sure you tell us about your skills.

We also need to know:

  • your full name
  • your date of birth
  • which area of Wales you live in
  • your contact details.

Stage 2

A group of young people will then choose up to 4 applications to go through to the voting stage.

Voting will take place from 15 November to 22 November.

We will then tell everyone who applied if they have been chosen or not.

We will then let Welsh Youth Parliament know the name of the young person who has been chosen.
